Nach der Zerstörung des Todessterns geht der Kampf zwischen den Rebellen und dem herrschenden Imperium weiter. Die Rebellen haben sich auf den Eisplaneten Hoth zurückgezogen, doch das Imperium spürt sie auf und zerstört nach hartem Kampf die dortige Basis. Daraufhin teilen sich unsere Freunde auf: Luke gerät mit R2-D2 auf den Sumpfplaneten Dagobah, wo er von dem alten Jedi-Meister Yoda eine Ausbildung im Umgang mit der Macht erhält, während Leia, Han Solo und die anderen sich nach Bespin durchschlagen, wo in einer Wolkenstadt ein alter Freund von Han residiert. Doch dort geraten sie in eine Falle des Imperiums, und Luke muß ihnen zu Hilfe kommen und Darth Vader zu einem Duell herausfordern…

Deutsche / Englische UntertitelSome of you might know me from the German Despecialized Editions,
where I turned Harmy’s fandom-defining pieces of work into a hopefully similarily beloved project for fans like me,
who grew up with the German „Krieg der Sterne“-trilogy.
Back then, I put a lot of effort into recreating all the German language elements for those releases,
recreating two of the crawls and several title cards and subtitles from scratch, and got some much-needed help on the audio side from users cvs and J.J._McQuade.
Over the recent years, with several 4K projects emerging, people kept asking me if I would consider doing similar work for those versions,
and I’ve finally found some time to work on it.
I am using @ohteedee’s D+77/D+80/OTD83 as my base.
I’ve picked these, because they are the cleanest and sharpest of the releases, so this is the image quality bar I needed to match.
Should I ever do German versions of other releases, I „just“ need to dumb them down to match their respective image quality.
Now, for some of this stuff I was able to re-purpose the After Effects projects
I’ve created for Despecialized (especially the KDS end credits and some of the subtitle timings),
but under the hood all sources are brand new. I’ve re-created all three crawls from scratch once again,
now in Blender, trying to keep the 35mm/70mm optical compositing look (and preserving the ZÜRUCK-typo).
For the Greedo subtitles I FINALLY found the correct font (Granby, in case you’re wondering),
which I still had to modify a lot to match all the weird substitutes used back in the day.
